Buskett Garden is Malta's only natural woodland. 60 hectares of mixed Mediterranean forest in the south of the island — the kind of place that, once lost, cannot be replaced. The LOVE Foundation has been stewarding it for years, and in 2026, they became MMGA's first partner NGO.
The operational problem
Buskett receives thousands of visitors annually. Picnic groups, school visits, volunteer work days, corporate team-building — all of it was managed through a combination of WhatsApp messages, phone calls, and one spreadsheet that lived on one person's laptop.
No capacity visibility. No confirmations. No data. When groups showed up at the same time, it meant awkward conversations at the gate. When schools needed to rebook, it meant chasing someone's personal phone number.
This is not a criticism of the foundation — it's a resource problem. They're volunteers. They needed software they didn't have the capacity to commission.
What we're building
The Buskett Booking App is a purpose-built platform for managing access to the garden:
- Public booking interface — visitors select a zone, date and group size, and receive a confirmation - Zone management — 8 picnic areas with individual capacity limits - Volunteer scheduling — work days with sign-up and attendance tracking - Admin dashboard — full visibility for the LOVE Foundation team - Automated emails — confirmations, reminders, and post-visit follow-ups
We're building this on a modern web stack, designed to be maintained by the foundation with minimal technical knowledge. Documentation is part of the handover.
Why booking infrastructure matters
A booking system sounds mundane. It isn't. Managed access is the difference between a protected woodland and an overrun one. Data on visit patterns helps the foundation make the case for resources. And a professional booking experience tells visitors — including corporate groups — that this is an organisation that runs things properly.
That perception matters when you're trying to raise money.
The app is in active development. We'll publish an update when it launches.
